• M113 Family of Vehicles to include armored personnel carriers, medical, command and control, engineering mortar launching vehicles As a key member of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Team, BAE Systems is responsible for five of the eight manned variants and for major elements of the common platform design. These critical weapons will be the first in a new line of combat vehicles and systems that will empower soldiers through unmatched firepower, situational awareness and survivability. Technology developments in composite materials, hybrid electric power systems, active protective suites, integrated vehicle survivability, reactive and passive armor kits, crew station design, training systems, unmanned ground vehicle capabilities and other features position the organization at the forefront for future ground combat system developments. Ground Systems is certified to ISO 9001 standards and the highest level (Level 5) on the Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMM-I) for systems and software engineering.
Job Summary:
The major challenge for a Mechanical Engineer is to develop practical economic solutions that meet the performance cost and schedule requirements within program constraints. Challenges involve developing and/or utilizing new technologies to remain the world leader in military systems.
The Mechanical Engineer position has broad exposure to the complex business and technical challenges facing a major defense contractor. Major responsibilities frequently include developing innovative product designs, providing production support, performing engineering analyses, and managing project resources.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (See Responsibility Matrix):
Prepare mechanical layouts and develop mechanical system or subsystem designs. Perform engineering analyses and prepare technical reports. Coordinate efforts with test groups by developing/evaluating test plans and overseeing through completion. Provide support throughout product life cycle. Coordinate design functions with stakeholders to comply with performance requirements. Generate technical data packages. Perform cost account management to include estimating, executing, controlling and reporting. Must be able to utilize PCCS (Project Cost Control System) in developing and managing budgets. Prepare and present technical presentations to customers, management and vendors. Coordinate design activities, review vendor or subcontractor designs and provide input as a participant or a lead of a PDT. Define and analyze requirements; Develop product/performance specifications. Support business development and proposal development Share the responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor. Comply with Company safety policies and maintain a safe work environment. Identify and protect intellectual property.
Those positions that supervise: Provide leadership for the shared responsibility of employee development. Ensure that the employees and the work environment are compliant with Company safety policies.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Position requires BSME and 0 to 2 years related experience. This position demands strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to relate well with others. Computer literacy is required . Product line knowledge is desired at the component, system and/or vehicle levels. An understanding of the Customer organization, processes and requirements is desired.
